theMechanism and GIANT Magazine Present the Future of Online Publications with GiantMag.com
New York, NY (PRWEB) October 26, 2006
theMechanism has been with GIANT Magazine from the very beginning, helping them launch their fledgling publication with a bang, however, with a new editor–in–chief comes a new vision for the entertainment publication. Once again, the team at theMechanism was called in to redesign GIANT Magazine’s Web site and translate its new print design and content approach into another online success story. read more
theMechanism took a decidedly different approach with the new site by creating a highly–interactive Web experience that allows conversation between the magazine and it’s audience. The site was divided in half, with the left side devoted to the voice of the magazine and the right side devoted to the voice of the reader through gravatar–enabled comments in a blog–like format. While most magazine Web sites are essentially one–way conversations, theMechanism, together with the team at GIANT Magazine, felt that by letting the reader be a contributor, GIANT’s audience would be empowered to speak with a very large voice. Site visitors are able to comment on the continuously fresh pop culture content that is posted by GIANT editors on the site.
“Our goal was to not only collaboratively develop a newly branded vision for GIANT online, but to leapfrog what we perceived to be an accepted and static approach for the publishing sector in general,” said Dave Fletcher, Founding Partner and Creative Director of theMechanism. "By combining the vitality and accessibility of CSS–driven web standards development with a highly–engaging and immersive experience for the fan of popular culture, we’ve delivered conversational power to both GIANT and the visitor."
theMechanism shares GIANT’s vision of a total pop culture experience and continues to work to create a full sensory experience for their readers. “theMechanism flawlessly implemented the ideas for the new direction of GIANTmag.com, adding expertise and experience to take what we wanted to new heights,” said Charles Coxe, Editor–in–Chief of GIANTmag.com. “And thanks to their continuing ingenuity and hard work, the future potential of GIANT is, well, quite large.”

From the Concert Stage to a Global Stage: theMechanism Brings the VH1 Classic "Decades Rock Live" Concert Series Online
New York, NY (PRWEB) January 24, 2006
When World Productions, LLC was looking for a creative firm that could perfectly bring the essence of their unique rock concert series online, they turned to theMechanism. The VH1 Classic “Decades Rock Live” concert series features live, once–in–a–lifetime performances by musical legends joined on stage by some of today’s hottest stars that they have inspired. read more
The result is www.decadesrocklive.com, a unique, multi–functional online destination.Current site features include the “Decades Rock Live” TV schedule, artist bios, concert news, community message boards, and the Decades Box Office where fans can conveniently purchase tickets to upcoming shows. Soon, visitors will be able to access the “Backstage Pass” page where they will be able to download and view exclusive backstage interviews, photos and music downloads from their favorite artists and shows.
The fully CSS–enabled website is built to easily accommodate frequent changes, additions, and necessary updates to live events and televised schedules. It was built to strict web–standards guidelines, and features several databases, Macromedia Flash elements, visitor–driven photo galleries, xml feeds and a store featuring the “Decades Rock Live” brand merchandise.
“Sure there’s plenty of behind–the–scenes voodoo going on with this site, but if you can also manage to build a visually pleasing, well–branded site that’s accessible and web standards friendly, then you’ve really got something special,” added Dave Fletcher, Founder and Creative Director at theMechanism in New York City. “We’re looking forward to adding additional features to the site as new episodes are unveiled in the coming months, making this truly a ‘destination’ site for fans of rock–and–roll rather than simply a means of accessing a television and live event schedule.”
The site’s edgy, yet branded look and feel was derived in part from the show’s existing original poster designs by artist, Shayne Ivy, and theMechanism’s own appreciation of classic and modern rock and roll artwork and style. As a result, www.decadesrocklive.com feels both unique yet very familiar to visitors, a perfect companion piece to a show that successfully unites rock luminaries both past and present.
“We spent a lot of time pouring through groundbreaking television productions like ‘Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert’ and ‘The Midnight Special’ to get a grasp of the size of the spectacle that World Productions was creating. It fueled our creative approach for the web site,” added Fletcher. “I think Decades Rock Live, as both an entity and an idea, is the kind of thing that could very well revive the ‘Grandiose Rock and Roll Spectacular’ for the next generation. Sometimes, you have to immerse yourself in the past as a path to the future.”
